Rich is a quintessential mountian man.
He is also a husband and father of two.
A Mountain Guide Certified By the ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) and recognized by the IFMGA and UIAGM
Rich began skiing at the early age of three. Taught by his father Bill, rich quickly learned to use his skis to navigate the winter world.
Climbing for Rich began in high school in Kingston Ontario Canada. In the basement of Queens university technical skills were taught, rope skills absorbed in the gymnasium and it was all put together on the granite outcrop of Kingston Mills. In 1986 rich and his dad set out for an early summer trip to the Rocky Mountains of Canada. After purchasing a single pair of crampons to go along with our only axe we set off in our work boots to climb the “regular” route on Mt Athabaska at the Columbia Icefields. The climb was sucessfull more equipment was found and over the next few years they climbed many of the “Classic routes of the Rockies”
Rich moved to Whistler BC in the fall of 1989 to spent a winter in the big hills of the West Coast. The following winter Rich met up with Jia Condon and Brad Urwin. Together they formed a tight knit friendship that led to countless days searching for untouched powder runs and soon into the Backcountry of Whistler/Blackcomb and Garibaldi Provincial Park.
